Mac plug-in formats

Which version of an Untamed Audio pedal loads where, and what to do if yours doesn't.

Which format do I need?

Untamed Audio App Store releases provide AUv3. Check each App Store listing for the supported Apple platforms. Some Mac DAWs support AUv3; others require AUv2 or VST3. Check the format support for your exact DAW version before purchasing.

Our complete Mac effect installers include the standalone app with AUv3, plus AUv2 and VST3. Choose the formats you need under Customize. Check the download’s format label: older releases may still offer a separate app and optional AU/VST3 package. Desktop purchases are separate from App Store purchases and do not include iPhone or iPad software.

Installing a complete Mac effect

Quit the effect and your audio host, then open the downloaded .pkg. The default installation includes all formats; use Customize to select just the formats you need. The installer places the standalone app in /Applications, AUv2 in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components, and VST3 in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3. The AUv3 stays inside the app. Open the app once, then reopen your host and rescan if needed.

For an older app-only disk image, drag the app to Applications and open it once. Deck Lite remains a standalone host and does not include effect plug-ins.

Updating and removing formats

Installing the new package updates the copies at those system locations. Older manual downloads may have plug-ins under ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins; remove the old copy when moving to the installer to avoid duplicate plug-ins. Keep formats needed by existing projects: switching to AUv3 does not guarantee an existing AUv2 or VST3 instance will be replaced.

To remove the app and its AUv3, quit the app and your host, then move the app from Applications to Trash. AUv2 and VST3 are separate files: remove the matching .component or .vst3 from the folders above if you no longer need them. Your saved presets are preserved.

Windows and Linux installers

Complete Windows effect downloads include the standalone app and VST3 in one .exe installer. Choose either or both formats. The app appears in the Start menu; VST3 goes in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. Remove them using Windows’ installed-app settings. AU formats are available only on Apple platforms.

Linux effect installers are .deb packages for Ubuntu 22.04 or compatible newer Debian-based x64 systems. Install and remove them using your package manager. They include the standalone app and VST3 in /usr/lib/vst3; these installers do not cover other Linux distributions.

Why does my plugin not appear?

Confirm that the format and processor architecture match your host, then rescan plugins using your host's instructions. AUv3 lives inside its containing app; open that app once after installing it. If you still need help, email [email protected] with the plugin, DAW version and operating system.

Will every editor scale?

Plugin editors and hosts handle sizing differently. Some have fixed dimensions or native graphics that prevent reliable scaling. Deck Lite fits editors where supported and provides scrolling for editors that cannot fit.

Is Deck Lite really free?

Yes. Deck Lite is $0.00. A free email account is required for official downloads, with daily limits to protect the service. Once downloaded, it works offline without activation or an account login. Plugins are installed separately.

Can I share the desktop download?

You're welcome to share the unmodified desktop release privately with friends. Please don't upload it to file-sharing sites or public links, sell it, or repackage it. Keep the licence and third-party notices with the copy. Share the app, not your account or personal download link. See the desktop sharing terms. App Store packages have their own terms.
